In Korfu, where I’m fortunate enough to be right In Korfu, where I’m fortunate enough to be right now, there are over 4 million olive trees. Immersing myself in their energy is an extraordinary experience. They imbue me with a peace I’ve never felt before. In an olive grove, everything stills; past and future disappear. There’s only a peace that has no beginning or end. A completely healing encounter. These photos were taken on the beach where part of the landslide exposed the roots of this sacred tree. 🫒🌳
This is a project I started two years ago. The im This is a project I started two years ago. The image of Our Lady of Częstochowa, located in the sanctuary at Jasna Góra, is one of the most recognizable symbols of Christianity in Poland. It is an icon of unknown authorship, painted in tempera on a wooden panel. It was created according to the iconographic canon of the Hodegetria, one of the oldest representations of Mary, dating back to the early centuries of Christianity. In Polish homes, there are specific interpretations of this icon, somewhat kitschy, almost fairground-like. Against a richly embossed background, the Virgin Mary with the Child is depicted. The background is usually made of golden plastic, while the faces and hands of the figures are often glued-on photographic prints. In the image, the Madonna is shown half-length. She holds the Child on her left arm, supporting Him with her left hand. With her right hand, she points toward Christ, which carries a particular meaning. The word “Hodegetria” comes from the Greek words hodos (meaning “the way”) and hodego (meaning “to guide”). At the bottom, there is a ribbon with the inscription: “Under Your protection we seek refuge.” I want to create a series of a few bas-reliefs inspired by this image. In my interpretation, the background will be black with golden elements. I would also like to create a version decorated with glittering stars and other elements that emphasize the slightly kitschy character of the reproductions we know from Polish homes.

I made two vessels, something to work with. To fil I made two vessels, something to work with. To fill with water, flowers, herbs. To use in ritual, or simply to let them exist within your space. These two were created side by side. One feels cold, metallic, almost forged, the other raw and organic. I’ve just listed both of them on Etsy.

I love witnessing those moments, watching matter being kissed by flames. I love drawing into myself those points of contact between the human and the other-than-human; those in-between moments. They nourish me deeply.

I bought three sculptures from Marta and they arrived really quickly from Poland to Singapore. One sculpture arrived broken, and Marta immediately promised to make me a new one. These sculptures are absolutely AMAZING! I had been looking for unique African sculptures that were not made of wood. Marta took great pleasure in creating exacting what I wanted. They are so detailed and life like. It is evident that a lot of thought and time was put into these beautiful creations. My order came sooner than expected even during COVID19.
